The Iconic Lovers' Watch
20th October 2019
9 years after the first launch of Le Pont des Amoureux watch in 2010, Van Cleef & Arpels surprise us in declining its most romantic Lady Arpels model in 5 new esthetics.
We remember its fascinating dark enamel dial representing a night setting in Paris with a sparkling sky enlightening the two lovers. Wandering under the moonlight, the two lovers join on the bridge to kiss at midnight (and noon). The woman indicates the hour with its umbrella while the man shows the minutes holding a flower. It is a true love story that this iconic watch embodies, the story of an eternal love as the couple never separates for long, always coming back to each other.

With these 5 new versions, Van Cleef & Arpels is back to turn heads and spread its magic again.
It is an extraordinary work of grisaille enameling with contrast of lights, shadows and gradient fading colors. The pastel hues of the “day” version are reflecting a poetic atmosphere with singing birds and fresh luminosity. The fantastic craft is done in the workshops of Geneva by 20 in-house enamellers who spend about 40 hours on each dial to be perfect.

As a symbol of perpetual love, the watch is declined in each season, showing the everlasting romance over time. The 4 dials change in colors and vegetation, as the months pass, the trees are blooming, green, loosing their leaves, or covered by snow. The butterflies leave space to snowflakes while the sky alternately welcomes the sun or the light clouds. The strap of each watch also adopts the season fever: pink sapphire petals, diamond and blue sapphire snowflakes, yellow sapphires leaves or butterflies. The bridge has a more refined structure than the first version and its color varies depending on the season: white gold for winter, pink gold for spring, yellow gold for summer and autumn. Details are pushed such as for the couple’s outfits that are adapted to the weather.

The 734 stones set on the bracelet resonates the diamond bezel which welcomes an intriguing button on the left side. The latter is a “kiss-on-demand” mechanism that allows the wearer to bring the two lovers together, at any time, for a few seconds before returning to their timekeeper positions. From a more technical point of view, the timepiece is powered by an automatic movement, Valfleurier Q020, and has a 36 hour power reserve. After 4 years of development, the watches are finally in sale, starting from $123.000 USD.
Van Cleef & Arpels, again, perfectly maintains and reinforces its romantic and poetic identity, relying on refinement, French elegance and femininity.
